Honext x WEPA: scaling circular materials

We are pleased to share a major milestone for Honext Material.

Together with WEPA Group, we have established Honext x WEPA GmbH, a joint venture created to scale the production of circular fibreboards made from processed recycled fibres.

These boards are designed to be fully reintegrated into the material cycle at the end of their life, supporting a truly circular approach to material use.

Through our proprietary industrial process, cellulose-based waste streams can be transformed into valuable resources. Instead of becoming waste, these fibres are converted into high-performance fibreboards.

As a result, the material is fully recyclable, safe for interior applications and free from VOC emissions.

In addition, HONEXT® boards offer excellent performance across a wide range of applications, including acoustic and decorative wall and ceiling panels, exhibition stands, trade fairs, museums, retail furniture and interior fit-outs.

HONEXT® fibreboards to be produced in Germany at WEPA Group’s Kriebstein site

HONEXT circular fibreboards for healthy interiors

HONEXT®  fibreboards will be produced at the WEPA Group industrial site in Kriebstein, Germany.

In addition to the existing hygiene paper production facilities, a new industrial facility for the production of HONEXT® circular fibreboards will be established.

In addition, the fibres used to manufacture the boards will be processed directly on site. This will optimise resource flows, strengthen regional value chains and reduce transportation-related emissions.

As a result, the project represents a major step forward in scaling circular materials at an industrial level.

By combining innovation, material circularity and high-performance manufacturing, it will help accelerate the transition towards safe and healthy interiors for the construction and interior design sectors.

Advancing Europe’s transition towards a circular and resource-efficient construction sector

Supported by the European Investment Bank, the project reinforces Europe’s transition towards a more circular and resource-efficient construction sector.

Agreement signing between HONEXT and WEPA supported by the European Investment Bank

The construction of the plant is being supported by financing from the European Investment Bank, among other institutions.

This support highlights both the innovative nature of the project and its strategic importance for Europe’s transition towards a more circular and resource-efficient construction sector.

In addition, the agreement with the bank establishes a clear roadmap for the continued development of the facility.

Meanwhile, the teams are working to fulfil the remaining conditions precedent and accelerate the implementation of this pioneering industrial project.

As a result, the initiative provides a tangible example of how the circular economy can generate long-term value for industry, society and the environment.

“We are very pleased about the collaboration with WEPA Group. Together, we are demonstrating the potential of the circular economy. Our fibreboards showcase the value that can be created from materials when knowledge, technology and entrepreneurial ambition are aligned,” said Pol Merino, CEO of Honext Material.

Merino will serve as Managing Director of the new joint venture alongside Wolfgang Köster from WEPA Group.
