HONEXT® brings circular construction materials to OFROOM x Bauwendehof

How can waste become a valuable resource for the construction industry?

This question took centre stage at OFROOM x Bauwendehof, held in Düsseldorf on 12 October 2026.

Loreto Burés, Head of Business Development & Sales at HONEXT®, joined architects, designers and material innovators to explore the future of circular construction materials.

During her presentation, “Waste to Value: Innenausbauplatte aus Papierschlamm”, Loreto introduced the HONEXT® project. She explained how we transform recovered paper-based waste into circular boards for interior applications.

The event, titled “Architektur, Material und urbane Transformation”, encouraged new ideas about materials, architecture and the future of construction.

Why are circular construction materials important?

The construction industry uses large amounts of natural resources and generates significant waste.

Circular construction materials can help change this model. They support better resource use, reduce the need for virgin raw materials and help keep valuable resources in circulation.

Traditional construction often follows a linear model: take, make and dispose.

Circular construction takes a different approach. It encourages manufacturers, architects and designers to consider the entire life cycle of a material.

This includes its origin, production, use and potential recovery.

As a result, material selection plays a key role in creating more sustainable buildings and interior spaces.

How does HONEXT® contribute to circular construction?

HONEXT® transforms recovered paper-based waste into boards for non-structural interior applications.

Our patented biotechnological process gives residual cellulose fibres a new purpose. Instead of using virgin fibres, we recover existing resources and turn them into a valuable material.

HONEXT® Boards offer new possibilities for architects, designers and manufacturers.

They can be used in a wide range of interior applications, including:

  • Decorative wall cladding.
  • Technical wall and ceiling cladding.
  • Acoustic and decorative interior solutions.
  • Custom interior design products.

This approach combines circularity, material innovation and design flexibility.

HONEXT® demonstrates how the construction industry can use recovered resources to develop new interior solutions.

What does Waste to Value mean for HONEXT®?

For HONEXT®, Waste to Value means turning waste into a resource.

Circularity starts with our raw materials. We recover cellulose fibres from paper-based waste and transform them into new boards.

But our circular approach goes beyond recycled content.

We also consider the manufacturing process and the future of the material. HONEXT® Boards are recyclable, helping to keep valuable resources in circulation.

This creates new opportunities for the construction industry to reduce waste and adopt circular material solutions.

What did HONEXT® share at OFROOM x Bauwendehof?

The event brought together professionals who are working to transform architecture and construction.

Speakers explored key topics such as material sufficiency, circular material flows, reuse, construction systems and building transformation.

Loreto Burés presented HONEXT® as an example of material innovation based on waste recovery.

Her presentation showed how recovered paper-based waste can become a resource for interior architecture.

The event also gave us a valuable opportunity to share our project, exchange ideas and connect with industry professionals.

We were delighted by the warm welcome and the strong interest in HONEXT®. We also established promising new contacts and explored potential collaborations.

These connections are especially valuable as we continue to expand the use of HONEXT® in the construction and interior design sectors.

How can collaboration accelerate circular construction?

The transition to circular construction requires more than innovative materials.

It also depends on collaboration between manufacturers, architects, designers and construction professionals.

Events such as OFROOM x Bauwendehof create opportunities to exchange knowledge and discover new solutions.

They help connect material innovation with real architectural projects.

For HONEXT®, these conversations are essential. They allow us to share our technology, understand market needs and explore new applications for our material.

Circular construction starts with better material choices. Collaboration helps turn those choices into real projects.

We would like to thank OFROOM and Bauwendehof for the invitation, the warm welcome and the opportunity to share our vision.

Together, we can continue turning waste into value and supporting a more circular construction industry.
