On 22 October 2026, Pol Merino, Managing Director of HONEXT®, participated in an industrial symbiosis workshop organised by CREC.
The event brought together companies, public institutions and sustainability professionals to share practical solutions and real-world experiences in circular economy.
Industrial symbiosis: turning waste into valuable resources
Industrial symbiosis enables companies to turn waste and by-products from one industry into valuable resources for another. By connecting industrial processes, businesses can reduce waste, optimise resource use and create new opportunities.
During the workshop, Pol Merino presented HONEXT® as a real-world example of this approach.
HONEXT® transforms recovered cellulose fibres from the paper industry into circular boards for non-structural interior applications, including wall and ceiling cladding.
Through its resin-free biotechnological process, HONEXT® gives new value to recovered paper-based waste. As a result, resources that would otherwise be discarded can become useful materials for interior design and construction.

Collaboration to advance the circular economy
The workshop also introduced practical initiatives supporting industrial symbiosis in Catalonia, including the PSIC platform from the Agència de Residus de Catalunya and GRID (Granollers Recursos Industrials).
Furthermore, a roundtable discussion encouraged participants to exchange experiences and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
At HONEXT®, we believe that collaboration between industries is essential to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy. Our approach demonstrates how industrial waste can become a resource for developing circular building materials.
We would like to thank CREC, the Consell Comarcal del Vallès Oriental, all the speakers and participants for sharing their knowledge and contributing to this valuable discussion.
