HONEXT® at AMBIT Cluster Circular Materials and Ecodesign

HONEXT® shares its circular materials expertise at AMBIT Cluster

HONEXT® participated in “Impulsando el ecodiseño y la circularidad en el sector del hábitat”, an event organised by AMBIT Cluster in collaboration with ACCIÓ and the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (ARC).

The event brought together companies and professionals to explore how ecodesign, circular materials and new business models can accelerate the transition towards a more circular habitat sector.

Representing HONEXT®, Pol Merino, CEO, shared the company’s approach to circular materials and explained how innovation can help keep resources in use for longer.

HONEXT® at AMBIT Cluster: bringing circular materials into practice

The HONEXT® AMBIT Cluster participation focused on turning circular economy principles into practical material solutions.

During the session, companies shared real examples of circular business models, ecodesign strategies and products designed to extend material life cycles.

In addition, participants explored support programmes, funding opportunities and technical resources available to accelerate circular economy projects.

These tools can support innovation across interior design, furniture and the built environment.

What is HONEXT®?

HONEXT® is a circular fibreboard for non-structural indoor applications, made from upcycled cellulose fibres recovered from industrial waste streams.

Instead of using virgin fibres, the HONEXT® process gives a new life to cellulose waste. The resulting boards can be used in interior wall and ceiling cladding and other design-driven interior applications.

Moreover, the material can be cut, drilled and processed similarly to conventional wood-based boards.

Therefore, HONEXT® combines circularity, design versatility and technical performance in a material developed for the interior built environment.

Why are circular materials important for the habitat sector?

The transition towards a circular economy requires a different approach to materials.

Instead of following a linear take–make–waste model, materials need to be designed with their next use in mind. This means reducing dependence on virgin resources while creating opportunities for reuse and recycling.

For HONEXT®, waste is not simply an end point. It can become the raw material for a new product.

This approach is especially relevant for interior architecture and fit-out, where material choices can play an important role in reducing resource consumption and supporting more circular projects.

Collaboration to accelerate circular innovation

The AMBIT Cluster ecodesign and circularity forum also highlighted the importance of collaboration.

Companies, public institutions and industry organisations all have a role to play in bringing circular solutions to market and scaling their adoption.

For HONEXT®, participating in this ecosystem provides an opportunity to share knowledge, learn from other organisations and contribute to the development of more circular material solutions.

Ultimately, transforming the built environment requires more than innovation at product level. It also requires collaboration across the entire value chain.

And that is how circularity can move from ambition to implementation.
