Project: Sculptural central island cladding in a private residence – Taiwan

IMPACT: 2 m³ of HONEXT installed (170 m² surface)
100% recycled & recyclable material integrated into a healthy interior environment

HONEXT boards used as a decorative cladding element in the central island area of a contemporary private residence in Taiwan.

This modern residential project integrates HONEXT as a defining material feature within the heart of the home. The central island — conceived as a sculptural and monolithic volume — is fully clad with HONEXT boards, transforming it into a tactile architectural focal point.

In this application, the reverse side of the board was deliberately selected, exposing a more textured, irregular and heterogeneous surface. This natural, raw finish enhances the material expression of the space, adding depth, warmth and authenticity to an otherwise clean and minimalist interior design.

The project demonstrates how high-quality circular materials can move beyond technical performance to become protagonists in contemporary residential architecture.

Case study: circular interior cladding as architectural feature

The One Dust residence demonstrates how circular materials can become defining architectural elements within contemporary interiors.

At the heart of the project, the central island is conceived as a sculptural core volume, fully clad with HONEXT boards. Rather than concealing the material, the design intentionally exposes its natural character, reinforcing a philosophy of honest materiality and circular construction.

By integrating 100% recycled and recyclable boards into a key spatial element, the project embraces a material strategy that prioritises long-term value, adaptability and responsible resource use. The island becomes both a functional component and a visible statement of circular design.

Interior architecture plays a decisive role in wellbeing, comfort and spatial quality, particularly in residential environments where occupants spend most of their time indoors. Selecting non-toxic materials such as HONEXT — free from added resins, formaldehyde and harmful emissions — ensures safe and healthy interior conditions.

In this case, the reverse side of the board was deliberately selected, revealing a more textured, heterogeneous and raw surface. This finish enhances tactile perception, adds depth to the minimalist composition and strengthens the connection between natural material expression and contemporary design.

The result is a residential interior that unites aesthetic character, material transparency and high-performance circular construction, supporting wellbeing and long-term use. It demonstrates that circular, non-toxic materials can deliver design impact, durability and healthy indoor comfort while reinforcing environmental responsibility.
