HONEXT® Digital Printed Wall Cladding for Museum Exhibition Design
The temporary exhibition «Aynu. Una cultura indígena del Japó», hosted at the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món in Barcelona, demonstrates how exhibition architecture can become part of the narrative itself.
Designed as a quiet transition before entering the exhibition, the entrance space combines low lighting, large-format printed wall surfaces and seamless architectural integration to create an immersive experience inspired by Japanese culture and its profound relationship with paper.

In museum exhibitions, architecture is an essential part of storytelling.
Every material, texture and lighting decision contributes to the visitor’s experience before the first object is even observed.
For the temporary exhibition «Aynu. Una cultura indígena del Japó», HONEXT® Boards were transformed into large-format digitally printed wall cladding.
As a result, the panels create seamless exhibition surfaces that guide visitors through the space from the very beginning.
In addition, the natural texture of recycled cellulose fibres establishes a subtle dialogue with Japanese culture, where paper has long held both practical and symbolic significance.
Ultimately, the project combines aesthetics, functionality and circular design in a single exhibition environment.
By integrating HONEXT® acoustic false ceilings, the project improves sound absorption while preserving the restaurant’s industrial and honest architectural identity.
Manufactured from 100% recycled fibres, HONEXT® Boards contribute to healthier interior environments through safe, circular, and high-performance material solutions designed for contemporary hospitality spaces.
Designed as a temporary installation, the project demonstrates how museum exhibitions can integrate circular materials without compromising design quality or technical performance.
HONEXT® Boards were installed as continuous wall cladding using adhesive fixing and mechanical fastening onto a timber substructure.
The material was also incorporated into custom-built audiovisual enclosures and display showcases that emerge directly from the walls, creating a cohesive architectural language throughout the exhibition.
Manufactured from 100% recycled fibres, HONEXT® Boards provide museum designers with a circular, low-emission solution for temporary exhibitions, cultural spaces and immersive interior environments.
