ALBUFERA Biophilic Wall Cladding Featured at MIAD 2025

ALBUFERA biophilic wall cladding took part in Alba, an installation by Welcome Design at MIAD 2025 in Madrid.

The Albufera collection, created by Rafa Ortega for Greenarea, combines nature, design and circular materials.

The installation explored the relationship between light, colour and materials. Through reflections and shadows, Alba created an immersive experience.

ALBUFERA added natural textures and ochre tones to the space. As a result, the panels connected the installation’s creative concept with nature-inspired interior design.

ALBUFERA: Biophilic design inspired by nature

Rafa Ortega designed ALBUFERA for Greenarea, drawing inspiration from the rice fields of Valencia’s Albufera Natural Park.

The modular panels recreate the geometric patterns of these landscapes from above. Moreover, designers can combine the pieces in different ways to create unique compositions.

Each panel combines HONEXT® boards with preserved natural vegetation, including lichen.

Greenarea specialises in bringing preserved vegetation into interior spaces. Therefore, ALBUFERA offers a creative way to introduce natural elements without watering or regular plant maintenance.

The result is a versatile biophilic wall cladding solution that combines nature, design and material innovation.

Circularity starts with the material

Circularity plays a key role in ALBUFERA’s design.

HONEXT® manufactures its boards from recovered paper-based waste through a patented biotechnological process. The process does not require added synthetic resins.

Furthermore, HONEXT® boards are recyclable by design. This approach gives recovered cellulose fibres a new purpose and helps keep resources in circulation.

HONEXT® boards hold Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold, Full Scope, version 3.1. They also hold C2C Certified® Material Health Gold, version 4.0, Material Health scope.

These certifications provide independent assessments of the material. They cover material health and, under the Full Scope certification, wider sustainability criteria.

Consequently, ALBUFERA benefits from a circular material at the heart of its design.

The project shows how material innovation can support creative applications while promoting more responsible resource use.

Ready to Use: Circular materials transformed into design

ALBUFERA also forms part of our growing Ready to Use range.

This range brings together finished designs and collections Made with HONEXT® by our customers. Architects and interior designers can integrate these products directly into their projects.

Through the Made with HONEXT® designation, we highlight products that use our circular material.

In addition, this designation helps communicate the value of HONEXT® boards. Their circular design, material health credentials and environmental performance add a new dimension to the finished products.

ALBUFERA is a clear example. It combines Greenarea’s expertise in preserved vegetation, Rafa Ortega’s creative vision and the circular properties of HONEXT®.
